For years, the corner of Boulder Highway and Flamingo had its own kind of familiarity.
Opened in 1979, Nevada Palace was a true locals casino, the kind of place people stopped into because it was part of the neighborhood. Slots and video poker, inexpensive food, regulars at the bar, an RV park out back, and a steady rhythm that made it feel more like part of daily Las Vegas life than a destination.
For nearly three decades, it served the east side as a comfortable, familiar place to grab a bite, play a little, or spend a few hours without making an occasion out of it.
Nevada Palace closed in 2008 and was later replaced by Eastside Cannery.
For a lot of longtime locals, it remains one of those places that instantly brings back a very specific era of Boulder Highway.
